So the production of wind generators is energy intensive and for now mainly non-renewable resources are used. While these are rapidly becoming depleted the future cost of building wind generators may turn out to be uneconomical. But the same is largely true of building any form of power station and, as a result of the current energy crisis, we are going to have to build a lot of new power stations of one sort or another in the coming 20 years.
Let’s not forget the simple fact that building new wind farms or other types of power stations whether they’re green or not gives WORK to thousands and thousands of builders, engineers, bankers etc. all over the world who are fighting for their right to have a better (greener) life.
I do not consider it possible that the current design of wind generators can fix any of our pressing concerns. However, I understand how CRUCIAL it is to act now, while we still possess resources that may someday, with our never-ending ability to learn, make a difference.
What worries me even more is that our current electrical system is very FRAGILE when it comes to dealing with large scale natural events or natural disasters. We cannot forecast our climate as it is far too complex. What we can say is that there is a certain DELICATE BALANCE in which the climate system operates. If we disrupt the balance, then it is quite possible that the climate will try to find a new state of balance and this may happen rather quickly. It is difficult to predict whether or not this new balance will be favorable for mankind or not. So the consequences of this may be easily compared to a global war – the Third World War that was started and won by the nature. I can only hope that we survive to LEARN and ADAPT our ways of life.
Still, at the moment when I look at these enormous hopelessly uneconomical metallic creatures I feel a sort of admiration towards them as they resemble us, mankind, in so many ways.
For me ENERCON E-44 acts like a SYMBOL stating our flaws and struggles and also as a BEACON by conveying in it a sense of HOPE to achieve greater things if we really want to.
I have a vision that one day, when we finally acknowledge this GIFT that is the SUN, we are being rewarded by technology that can be HARMONIOUS and in EQUILIBRIUM with the nature around us.
May ORGANIC wind energy be our FUTURE.

PPS. Kamares wind farm has installed four 0,9 MW ENERCON E-44 wind turbines that should produce approximately 20% of the electricity needs by the 12 800 inhabitants. In a sense Paros has already fulfilled one of the Europe 2020 rule.
PPPS. On the contrary to common belief that wind generators are a strain to the eye and pain for the ear I feel the same warmth towards them as for the windmills of our past. And actually they are quite silent which I can claim with ease by having spent some time around them in recent years.
